Cleaning Commiserating

Let me just say that this big conversation on cleaning, sparked my cleaning bug. I came home got the kiddos situated with lunch and then attacked my bathroom. Now we never use this bathroom (its just a 1/4 bath off our bedroom), and it needed some serious attention, and its been on my to-do list for months.

So I picked up what had migrated there over the last ... (I'll plead the fifth on how long its been since I've cleaned this bathroom) and put those things away and picked everything off the floor. This bathroom also houses the cat food and water, not sure why, but it does. So I picked the cat food dispenser and water bowl up too and sat them on the edge of the since and on the toilet respectively.

Then I pulled out my wet vacuum, which scrubs, squigy's and vacuums up all in one (love it!!). Cleaned up the floor in a jiff (why don't i do this regularly??) and then promptly knocked the entire dispenser of dry cat food on the floor. Sigh. So then I vaccumed up that and wiped it all down with my clorox wipes and by now the girls wanted in on the action so they each got a baby wipe and helped clean the sink and wipe down the toilet. (Yah!! Setting good habits now!!)

So there you have it, I cleaned the bathroom twice because of this mornings GUM conversation.

So how about the rest of you? Were you inspired enough to come tackle some big cleaning job? What recently happened to you while cleaning? Got a favorite product or tip you forgot to share this morning? Post a comment and share with us!

Okay, here goes it's gonna be a long one-brace yourself. So, tonight after bathtime, I left Titus naked for oh, about 2 minutes when I smelled something yuckie... You bet- he pee'd and then pooped right on my bedroom carpet. With tidbits of advice & product titles flashing through my head (none of which I own), I went for the vinegar mixed with some water. I couldn't rinse him off in the tub b/c of the toys all over the place (oops forgot to clean those up after the bath) and poop remnants on toys is B-A-D bad. So, I went for the bathroom sink. Slippery sucker, got poo-poo everywhere, except inside the sink (going downhill quickly here). Anyway, while all this was going down, I could hear Addie laughing & giving her sister the play-by-play (like all 4 your-olds can do so well) in their bedroom. I would have launched into teaching them how learning to clean=family teamwork, right then & there, but visions of the situation growing grossly out of control held me back. Anywho, my sink is now spotless, and my carpet smells like vinegar. Anyone have any suggestions how to take the smell of vinegar away? And don't tell me I did somwthing even remotely wrong all you Mrs. Clean's out there...it was either baking soda or vinegar-Judy's mom used it for everything remember? And my confidence is already low in the "despot of the home" category, so, be gentle with me :)andoo

Lindsay, I think a more diluted vinegar mixture would have reduced the smell...you might try rubbing with just a wet cloth.
Also, I posted the summary from my notes, and there's a green cleaning link in there for future reference. I'm sure there's a list of things to get xyz out with everyday things you have on hand.
I too, recently had a poop story happen to one of my kiddos. It involved "finger painting" and her mouth. I'll spare you the rest of the story. Let's just say the next time she yells "poop mommy" from the toilet, I'll come much much faster!

I went strait home & cleaned out & organized my large hall closet - I had pretty much stuffed stuff there since the move & never dealt with it.

I've totally had to clean the same thing twice b/c of my own spills before...SO frusterating!

You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the vinegar & water mix. For cleaning lemon, orange, and pine are great.
